UI student awarded Fulbright grant to teach English in Taiwan

Brett Burk, of Oskaloosa, IA, has been awarded a Fulbright U.S. Student Award to pursue an English Teaching Assistantship in Taiwan for 2015-16. Burk graduated from the University of Iowa in December 2014 with a B.A. in linguistics and an emphasis in TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language).

‘Confessions of a Chinese Translator’ and other public events to be held Oct. 14-17

The Center for Asian and Pacific Studies, International Programs, and the International Writing Program are jointly hosting several events next week featuring Ye Mimi, a Taiwanese poet and filmmaker, and Steve Bradbury, a poet, essayist, and associate professor of English at National Central University in Taiwan. All these events are free and open to the public.

International social media builds opportunity

The University of Iowa is trading English for Mandarin and Facebook for WeChat to reach out to international students. The university has announced it will hire a new global external-relations coordinator to connect the university with international alumni through social media throughout the world. The new coordinator will be in charge of developing, maintaining, and nurturing a program of international alumni relationships.
