UI students who are interested in field-based research projects abroad are invited to attend an information session with SIT Study Abroad on Friday, December 2, from 10:30-11:30 a.m. in room 2390 University Capitol Centre, featuring guest speaker Dr. Azim Khan, academic director at SIT. 

SIT is a sponsored 3rd party provider for study abroad programs at the Univeristy of Iowa. This event will discuss SIT’s programing in regards to ethical engagement in interning and conducting research abroad. Concentrating on the exploration of a specific critical global issue, SIT offers opportunities to gain language proficiency and learn how to conduct undergraduate field research abroad. Topics include: Climate and the Environment, Development, Global Health, Social Change, Migration and Identity, and Human Rights.

Dr. Azim Khan is a Fellow at the Royal Society for Public Health (UK) and Indian Public Health Association. Dr. Khan has been working as an academic director at SIT since spring 2008. He is an academic by training, with a zeal for social and health rights activism. He received his doctorate from Aligarh Muslim University in India. He earned an MA in human rights from the University of London in 2005, an LLM (Master of Laws) in 1997 from Aligarh Muslim University, and an LLB (Bachelor of Laws) with distinction in constitutional law, from the University of Lucknow in 1994.

SIT Study Abroad is a pioneer in experiential, field-based study abroad programs. SIT offers semester and summer programs for undergraduate students in Africa, Asia and the Pacific, Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East, as well as comparative programs in multiple locations. SIT is unique in that all semester programs allow students to conduct undergraduate research through an Independent Study Project. All programs also focus on cultural immersion through fieldwork, intensive language study, and urban and rural home stays with local families.
