Fulbright Celebration Event features Jim Leach Sept. 25

Former Congressman Jim Leach, visiting professor at the College of Law and University of Iowa Chair of Public Affairs, will be speaking at a Fulbright Celebration Event Wednesday, Sept. 25, at 5:15 p.m. in 1117 University Capitol Centre. Leach will present “Bridging Cultures: the Heart of the Fulbright Program.” The event is free and open to the public.

Key Ugandan anti-corruption activist will speak at UI Sept. 23

Jacqueline Asiimwe, a social justice and political rights activist from Uganda, will give a presentation at the University of Iowa Monday, Sept. 23, on “The Black Monday Movement: Re-energizing the Fight Against Official Corruption in Uganda.” Her talk will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Executive Board Room of the University Capitol Centre, Room 2390.

'Trafficked Survivors and Commoditization of Women’s Bodies' talk Sept. 5

Dr. Ajailiu Niumai will present a talk Thursday, Sept. 5 on “Trafficked Survivors and Commoditization of Women’s Bodies: A Study in Andhra Pradesh and Manipur, North East India.” Her presentation will be held from 4:30-6:00 p.m. in 302 Schaeffer Hall. The event is free and open to the public. Chai and snacks will be served.

"The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind: Creating Currents of Electricity and Hope" tells the inspiring story of a Malawian man’s determination to bring power and freedom to his village. The book is the 2013 selection for the One Community, One Book annual reading program, sponsored by the University of Iowa Center for Human Rights.
