Diane Jahnel, originally from Anamosa, Iowa, graduated from the University of Iowa in 1977, where she studied psychology and art. After a 34 year career in IT at Pearson, Jahnel retired and is now living in Paris, France, where she’s spent the past two years teaching English as a volunteer, taking French classes, and traveling.

She describes her University of Iowa experience in one word as “stimulating.” One of Jahnel’s favorite places was Kinnick Stadium, and she fondly recalls working at the Deadwood when it was a trailer on Clinton Street.

“The customers were very interesting… often from the Writer’s Workshop,” she said.

The people who made Jahnel’s University of Iowa experience the most memorable were her roommates, Sue and Jane, who were always “fun, supportive, and interesting.”

Virtual Homecoming is a chance to share memories from your time at the UI and reconnect with your alma mater, regardless of where you are in the world. During International Education Week 2016 (Nov. 14-18), we will be sharing some of these alumni stories.
