Indian classical dance artist makes two public appearances March 6 and 10

Acclaimed Indian classical dance artist, Madhavapeddi Murthy, will be a guest of the University of Iowa from Thursday, March 3, through Friday, March 11.

Murthy will make two appearances that are free and open to the public. The first will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 6, at the Space Place Theater in North Hall, as part of the UI Dancers In Company Target-sponsored matinee performance. The second will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 10, in the Iowa City Public Library Meeting Room A.

Murthy is a world-renowned dancer, teacher, choreographer and a leading advocate of the Kuchipudi style of Indian classical dance.

During his visit from India, Murthy will offer Kuchipudi dance classes, historical and cultural lectures and demonstrations through the UI Department of Dance, the UI Department of Theater and the UI School of Music, all in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

The UI Division of Performing Arts, the UI Department of Dance, the UI Arts Share Program, UI International Programs and the UI Honors Program are sponsoring his visit.
