WorldCanvass starts its ninth season by teaming up with Hancher and its Embracing Complexity project for a multi-layered program exploring the beauty of Islamic art and the diversity within Islamic cultures. Joan Kjaer hosts the program, which moves to a new location in the heart of downtown Iowa City—MERGE, at 136 South Dubuque Street. The live show takes place from 5:30-7 p.m. on Friday, September 29, and is free and open to the public. We invite you to come at 5 and join us for a pre-show catered reception!

On March 10, 2015, the African Studies Program, a constituent program of University of Iowa International Programs, hosted a reception for musicians of The Nile Project. The Nile Project is a collective of musicians from the eleven countries through which the Nile River flows in Eastern and North Eastern Africa.

Hoba Hoba Spirits performs at FilmScene in Iowa City
The popular Moroccan fusion group Hoba Hoba Spirit shared its music and artistic vision on a special edition of WorldCanvass at FilmScene on Thursday, Sept. 25. The WorldCanvass Studio program was produced in partnership with Hancher as part of Hoba Hoba Spirit's week-long Iowa City residency. From noon to 1 p.m. on Thursday, September 25, the popular Moroccan fusion group Hoba Hoba Spirit will share its music and artistic vison on a special edition of WorldCanvass at FilmScene.
