International Spotlight: Natalie Gilkison

Natalie Gilkison, a UI international studies alumna from Davenport, Iowa, spent time in China and here in Iowa working with international students during her undergraduate education. Natalie’s focus on international issues remained true during her time in law school, and she hopes to work with international students or in international education in her future.

Welcome to the 2014-15 Academic Year!

With Labor Day just past, and classes well underway, I want to welcome everyone to the 2014-15 academic year! I always enjoy the expansive feeling at the beginning of the school year, with so many new faces, undergraduates eager to visit the office to explore options abroad; graduate and professional students working with Karen Wachsmuth to apply for grants and fellowships; and faculty across the disciplines contacting me with ideas about how they can enhance their global teaching, research, and engagement activities.

UI tests mentoring program

As the number of international students attending the University of Iowa continues to grow, officials are offering a new program to help students integrate to Iowa and the United States comfortably. Starting next fall, incoming international students will have not only a three-day orientation, but for the first half of the semester, they will take an online course, and the second half of the semester, they will meet with mentors to help get better integrated at the university.
