Join the UI Japanese Program for two evenings (October 15 & 16) of bilingual readings with author Takiguchi Yūshō.  Takiguchi Yūshō, winner of the Akutagawa Prize and 2018 International Writing Program participant, will read selections from two of his works in the original Japanese, and members of the Workshop in Japanese Literary Translation will read their English translations. Both events are free and open to the public.

When you’re coasting through your senior year of high school just waiting to graduate, you might consider hanging out in the art room, where you can learn all kinds of things from the visiting art teacher—and maybe even something about art.

Takiguchi Yūshō is a participant in the 2018 International Writing Program. He writes stories about individual and collective memory. He won the Akutagawa Prize, Japan’s most prominent literary honor, in 2016 for the mesmerizing novella The Unceasing (Shinde inai mono).
