The African Studies Program, a part of International Programs, invites you to attend an upcoming lecture titled "The African Land Grab: Insights from Zambia" featuring guest speaker Tijo Salversa of the University of Cologne. This event will take place on Monday, March 26, 2018, from 12-1:30 p.m. in UCC 2520D (University Capitol Centre).

Since the inception of the latest global land rush in 2008, agricultural land in Africa has been a main target for foreign investors. In many of the continent’s countries, large areas of land have been purchased in the hope of making quick profits. This presentation will provide a brief overview of the latest developments in the phenomenon of land grabbing in Africa.

Tijo Salverda is a senior researcher at the University of Cologne’s Global South Studies Center (GSSC), and a research associate of the University of Pretoria’s Human Economy Program.

Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to attend all University of Iowa-sponsored events. If you are a person with a disability who requires a reasonable accommodation in order to participate in this program, please contact James Giblin in advance at james-giblin@uiowa.edu, or (319) 335-2302.
