The following message is from Yashwant Prakash Vyas, assistant director of diversity resources and president of the Alpha Tau Chapter of Phi Beta Delta:

Greetings-

On behalf of the distinguished members of Phi Beta Delta Honor Society for International Scholars and the leadership board of the Alpha Tau Chapter at the University of Iowa, it is my honor to invite you to apply to join the society (if you meet the eligibility requirements). The mission of this society is to recognize achievement in international educational interchange and to serve as a catalyst to increase the recognition, credibility, and importance of the international experience, and develop a network of individuals involved in international experiences. 

Membership in the society is open to individuals who have demonstrated scholarly achievement in the areas of international educational interchange. These individuals include:  

  • International students (non-immigrant visa holders in the upper division or graduate/professional level) who have demonstrated high scholastic achievement at the University of Iowa:
    • Undergraduate students must have completed 45 session hours at UI with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or above. Graduate/professional students must have completed one semester in a one-year master’s degree, two semesters in a two-year master’s degree, or two semesters in a doctoral degree program at the UI with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above.
    • Students must be in good standing (Academic and Code of Student Life) with the University of Iowa at the time of application.
  • Domestic students (upper division and graduate/professional level) who have demonstrated high scholastic achievement in the pursuit of international educational interchange through University of Iowa recognized study abroad or work/internship abroad programs:
    • Undergraduate students must have completed 45 session hours at UI with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or above. Graduate/professional students must have completed one semester in a one-year master’s degree, two semesters in a two-year master’s degree, or two semesters in a doctoral degree program at the UI with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above.
    • Students must be in good standing (Academic and Code of Student Life) with the University of Iowa at the time of application.
  • Staff, faculty, post-doctoral fellows, and visiting scholars who have been involved in University of Iowa recognized international endeavors (i.e. research, teaching, program development, or services).

If you meet the eligibility requirements and wish to join the society, please submit a Spring 2021 New Member Application. The deadline to submit your application is March 21, 2021, at 11:59 pm. Incomplete and late applications will not be reviewed.  

Please Note: The Alpha Tau Chapter will pay the $50 initiation fee for the first 50 applicants who meet the eligibility requirements.  

Once your application is accepted, you will be formally initiated into the society at the Spring 2021 Virtual Initiation Ceremony. During this event you will be awarded your membership diploma and medallion.
