BGC: Bringing J-1 Scholars to Your Department

Thursday, October 26 at 9:30 am to 11:30 am
University Capitol Centre, International Commons (Room 1117)
200 South Capitol Street, Iowa City, Iowa
This introduction session will introduce J-1 scholars to the audience. They will learn about the J-1 scholar categories and who J-1 scholars at the University of Iowa are.  Attendees will be walked through the J-1 Scholar Application and will come away with an understanding of how to fill out an application and how it is processed. The J-1 scholar orientation will be explained to attendees and issues that scholars commonly experience will be discussed. Attendees will then have time to ask any additional questions about scholars and the invitation process.

Participants may take courses individually, without working toward a certificate. Successful fulfillment of the Building Our Global Community certificate requires completion of one required core course and four elective courses. All courses taken for the program are free of charge to participants.

UI faculty and staff can sign up online through Employee Self-Service under the “Personal” tab in My Training; search for courses listed with BGC in the course title.

Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to attend all University of Iowa-sponsored events. If you are a person with a disability who requires a reasonable accommodation in order to participate in this program, please contact Brandon Paulson in advance at (319) 335-0335.
