Alternative Overseas Experiences
This section of our website is meant to provide students and recent graduates with a place to start their search for Work, Intern, and Volunteer Abroad (WIVA) opportunities. You are encouraged to read through the information given in each section below, conduct your own online search for additional opportunities, and contact any provider directly for answers to program specific questions.
- The Resource Room in Study Abroad has a section devoted to WIVA that you are welcome to explore Monday through Friday from 9am-5pm (except UI Holidays). There are many additional materials available here such as The Big Guide to Living and Working Overseas by Jean-Marc Hachey, Delaying the Real World by Colleen Kinder, and Frommer’s 500 Places Where You Can Make a Difference, as well as brochures promoting additional providers not listed on this site.
- For further advising on interning, volunteering, and working abroad please visit Study Abroad in University Capitol Centre 1111. You can make an appointment with Amy Bowes, the WIVA advisor, by calling 319.335.0353.
- For further advising on choosing the right opportunity for your career path and marketing yourself to acquire one of these positions you should visit the Pomerantz Career Center. You can make an appointment with Amanda Wilson, the International Services Liaison, by logging into www.HireaHawk.com.
