This announcement appeared in the Iowa City Press-Citizen [1].

2/14/2011

The University of Iowa Latin American Studies Program will welcome Camilla Townsend to UI for a talk, “Alias ‘Don Luis,’” at 4 p.m. Wednesday in Room 302 of Schaeffer Hall. This event is free and open to the public.

Townsend will discuss the “true tales” of the adventures of the 16th century Algonkian who traveled the seas and saw three continents and why, Townsend explained, he came home “boiling mad.”

Townsend is a history professor at Rutgers University in New Jersey. Her work on the relations between indigenous people and Europeans in the Americas has spanned Mexico, the Andes and the Chesapeake.

This talk is sponsored by LASP, UI International Programs and the UI Department of History in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
