A screening of the award-winning documentary “Crossing Borders” will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 26, in 1505 Seamans Center. This event is free and open to the public.
“Crossing Borders” follows four American and four Moroccan students through a journey of self-discovery in Morocco, confronting the supposed “clash of civilizations” between Islam and the West and forming relationships that disarm media-shaped stereotypes.
The film won Best International Documentary Feature at the 2009 Illinois International Film Festival.
Following the screening will be a panel discussion led by Denise Filios, associate professor in the UI Department of Spanish and Portuguese in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
“Images of the Muslim World” is a series of public discussions, lectures and film screenings illustrating the diversity of the Muslim world. It primarily focuses on aspects of culture, religion, society, geography, politics and history. Speakers include both local and visiting scholars and writers who give illustrated talks focusing on a particular region, country or topic within the Muslim world.
The UI Middle East and Muslim World Studies, African Studies Program and UI International Programs are sponsoring these events.
