ESG luncheon Oct. 19: 'Managing a Nazi-Era Past in the West German Public'

[1]The European Studies Group [2] (ESG) is hosting a luncheon talk featuring speaker Gabriele von Roedern at noon Friday, Oct. 19, in 1117 University Capitol Centre. Her talk, titled “Questionable Pasts: Managing a Nazi-Era Past in the West German Public, 1957-1979,” will focus on the legal attempts by individuals to control how their personal pasts were portrayed in public discourses in West Germany.

This event is free and open to the public. A light luncheon will be provided.

Gabriele von Roedern is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of History in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Her dissertation examines how individuals accused of having a Nazi-era past sought to manage those accusations within the larger West German public.

Sponsors of the event are ESG and International Programs.

Details regarding other upcoming ESG events will be posted at http://international.uiowa.edu/european-studies/events [3] as they are available. For more information, please contact Jennifer Sessions at jennifer-sessions@uiowa.edu [4] or 319-353-2199.
