A two-day symposium featuring the screening of two films by Ron Mulvihill will take place on the University of Iowa Campus beginning at 9 a.m. both Friday and Saturday, April 2 and 3. The event is free and open to the public.
Events begin on Friday at 9 a.m. in Room 109 of the English Philosophy Building. Morning and afternoon events feature discussion and films about urban culture in East Africa. Mulvihill’s film “Maangamizi: The Ancient One”  will be shown at 7 p.m. in Room 101 of Becker Communication Studies Building (BCSB).
After the morning events on Saturday, another Mulvilhill film will be shown at 1 p.m. in BCSB 101: “Poetry in Motion: 100 Years of Zanzibar’s Nadi Ikhwan Safaa.’ ” This feature-length documentary film explores the music, poetry, history and personalities of an esteemed East African orchestra. Mulvilhill will be present to lead a discussion afterwards.
