Students interested in Global Village should apply for Global Mosaic [1], a new living-learning community for fall 2013, on their housing application.
What is the Global Village?
The Global Village, located in Mayflower Residence Hall, is a unique living/learning community (LLC) for both international and U.S. students interested in foreign cultures, languages, and international issues. It is a new LLC that combines the International Crossroads Community (one of the oldest LLC’s on campus) and the Hispanic Language and Cultures LLC. The community is multilingual and multicultural; it is coed, and it is open to students of different majors, language abilities, international interests, ages, and experiences. Residents have the opportunity to participate in cultural festivals, language dinners, and programs where they learn about the intricacies of living in a diverse world.
Required Coursework
Students take a course in common with their fellow Global Village mates. There are two courses available. “Music, Food, and Salsa: Exploring Latino Culture” explores the diverse Latino culture in Iowa City. “Cool Places and Hot Spots” explores world cultures and important global issues. Both courses are one semester hour.
Why live in the Global Village?
As a Global Village member you will build close friendships with other students who share the common goal of broadening their knowledge of global issues, languages and cultures. You will also plan fun international programs, activities and events with other community members throughout the year.

Where is it located?
There are 68 spaces on one corridor in Mayflower Hall [2], located on the North Campus, near the Iowa River. All rooms have a kitchen, and the building has its own fitness center, convenience store, and computer lab (ITC).
