Need-Based Grants

Overview

Funds for need-based assistance are drawn primarily from the Office of Student Financial Aid (approximately $130,000 per year) and the Ann Morse Endowment at the UI Foundation (approximately $50,000 this year and $300,000 in subsequent years).  We are extremely fortunate—and grateful—that these resources are available.

Grants are awarded on the basis of relative need, and vary between $500 and $4,000.  Need is determined by using the FAFSA-generated figures that appear in your financial aid award summary on ISIS.  Although the equation is a bit more complicated than this, if your total financial need divided by the total cost of attendance at the UI is over 50%, there’s a strong chance you will receive need-based grant assistance.

Application

A common application is used for the need-based grants. You can download the Need- Based Application as a fill-in PDF form [1], which will allow you to type in your responses and then print the completed document to submit to the Study Abroad office.
