Outreach Coordinator Buffy speaks about IP's educational resources.

Each summer International Programs (IP) offers a week-long professional development workshop for K-12 teachers focusing on "what Iowans need to know about the rest of the world."  Past institute themes have included Fragile Economies, Understanding Nigeria, Understanding the Middle East, and The US/Mexico Border and Immigration Policies. For the summer 2007 institute, Corey Creekmur, UI Associate Professor of Cinema and Comparative Literature, conducted a workshop entitled Terrorism and Mass Media.

The workshop allows current teachers and pre-service teachers a chance to explore ways to incorporate international activities and cross-cultural communication exercises into their teaching. For more information on the upcoming seminar, contact Amy Green at (319) 335-1433.
