NOTE: International Programs will not be holding a Global Exploration Day event in the spring of 2008. Please stay posted for information on plans for future Global Exploration Days, beginning in 2009.
Let's Celebrate!
UI students Mansi Batia of India and Zeynep Akyol of Turkey serve rice from their respective countries at the 2003 Open House table with the theme "Rice Around the World."
Each spring, the University of Iowa’s International Programs welcomes area 2nd through 5th-grade classes to a day of global exploration. At this event, students and their teachers have an opportunity to meet international students and their children from a number of countries around the world.
Elementary students participate in hands-on projects including musical performance and dance, storytelling, art projects and food preparation. Prior to the Global Exploration Day, teachers will receive a packet of materials, including information about the countries represented, in order to prepare students for the event.

The year 2007 marked our 7th annual event, and there were a few changes, such as the location of our offices and the event, but the program format was the same as in previous years. We also made the exciting change to the title. "Global Exploration Day" in order to more accurately describe the event. The theme for 2007 was "Let's Celebrate," and we explored celebrations and traditions from around the world.
