Students & Scholars
The Office of International Students and Scholars provides students and scholars multiple opportunities to both learn about the US and share their own cultural backgrounds. Both international and domestic students gain cross-cultural understanding and insights through OISS outreach.
Café Central, which is co-sponsored with several student organizations, offers relaxing cultural entertainment and refreshments on Friday afternoons. OISS also supports many nationality student organizations in their activities and outreach.
Other specific programming is offered to assist students and scholars in their transition, such as Life in Iowa, our on-going orientation program and the Bridging Domestic and Global Diversity Program. Workshops on employment, trips to cultural sites in the Midwest, and other activities complement the educational pursuits of international students and scholars.
The reach of OISS extends into the community, working with local organizations such as Friends of International Students and the International Women’s Club who provide extensive services to UI international students, scholars, and their dependents.
