Bridging Domestic and Global Diversity:
A Training Program for Student Leaders
"The Bridge"
The Bridge Program was a very successful pilot program funded in part by a Catalyst Seed Grant in 2007 and we are excited to offer an expanded version in 2008. This program was developed and will be facilitated jointly by International Programs’ Office of International Students and Scholars (OISS) and Office of Study Abroad (OfSA), the Office of Equal Opportunity and Diversity (EOD), the University Counseling Service (UCS), Center for Diversity and Enrichment (CDE), the Career Center in the Henry B. Tippie College of Business, and the Office of Student Life (OSL).
The main objective for the program is to foster student initiatives which bring together underrepresented domestic groups and international students. Should a student be accepted, they will be one of approximately 30 UI students identified with exceptional leadership and organizational potential who will receive intercultural and diversity training, earn Bridge programming points by participating in various campus diversity events, actively plan the Domestic and Global Diversity Open Forum and help organize next fall’s famous Cultural Ball. The students commit to training activities provided by OISS in collaboration with the other offices listed above, and to providing leadership/advocacy activities to our campus community.
