Monday, August 11
- Latest date students should plan to arrive in Iowa City
Tuesday, August 12
- Check in for new graduate international students (1:30 to 4:00 pm in the International Commons, 1117 University Capitol Center. Students must bring all their immigration documents: passport, I-20/DS-2019 forms, and the I-94 card received upon entry to the US)
- Campus and community tours during the day.
- Evening reception to meet orientation leaders, staff, and other students
Wednesday, August 13
- Welcome lunch
- Small group sessions with student orientation leaders
- Evening pizza party and displays of campus and community services
Thursday, August 14
- SPEAK test for students who have been offered teaching assistantships for the fall semester
- Workshops and sessions on
- Payroll and taxation policies
- University billing
- Immigration regulations
- Academics and the American classroom
- Evening picnic and American square dance
Friday, August 15
- Workshops and sessions on
- Cultural adjustment
- Health insurance
- Counseling
- Student health and immunization requirements
- Student organizations fair
Saturday, August 16
- Bus trip to the Iowa State Fair (students will receive an e-mail on how to register for this additional event)
Monday, August 18
- English Placement Examination
- Special topics workshops and sessions
Tuesday, August 19 through Friday, August 22
- Immunization clinics
- Special topics workshops and sessions
Saturday, August 23
- Friends of International Students picnic
