Study Abroad awards listed below are available to UI undergraduate students studying abroad for a semester or academic year.

Common application forms are used for all merit-based scholarships, as well as for need-based grants drawn from any funding source. By completing one application, you will be considered for all the awards available for the session you will be studying abroad—merit, need, or both if you complete both applications.

General Criteria
  • Academic and personal objectives which are clearly defined and realistic
  • Academic achievement and preparation
  • Quality and completeness of the project proposal
  • Contribution of the study abroad experience to the student's overall academic program
  • Evidence of maturity, motivation and adaptability to a different cultural environment
  • Demonstrated interest in learning about foreign cultures
  • Relative financial need, based on Financial aid Award Summary information**

*The final deadline for application submission is 5 p.m. of the date listed above (close of business day in the Study Abroad office).

**If your 2013-14 Award Notification is not available yet you should submit the application form and the 2012-13 Award Notification. On the application, add a note stating your 2013-14 Award Notification is not available yet. When you are notified it is available, please email teresa-kout@uiowa.edu and attach your 2013-14 Award Notification. Your application will then be evaluated and you will receive the results.
