Short-term Scholarships and Grants

Study Abroad awards listed below are available to UI undergraduate students studying abroad during the summer or winter sessions, or for a short term during a semester.

Common application forms are used for all merit-based scholarships, as well as for need-based grants drawn from any funding source. By completing one application, you will be considered for all the awards available for the session you will be studying abroad—merit, need, or both if you complete both applications.

General Criteria
  • Academic and personal objectives which are clearly defined and realistic
  • Academic achievement and preparation
  • Quality and completeness of the project proposal
  • Contribution of the study abroad experience to the student's overall academic program
  • Evidence of maturity, motivation and adaptability to a different cultural environment
  • Demonstrated interest in learning about foreign cultures
  • Relative financial need, based on Financial aid Award Summary information
