The 13th Iowa City International Documentary Film Festival will take place April 10-11, 2015 in 105 Adler Building. The festival, presented by undergraduates in the UI Cinema Department, features documentaries from both Iowans and national and international filmmakers. The students aim to showcase different documenting styles and methods, questioning what it means to make a documentary.

As part of a special symposium by the Obermann Center for Advanced Studies, Joan Kjaer and her WorldCanvass guests explored the topic of "Energy Cultures and the Age of the Anthropocene" on March 3, 2015 at FilmScene in Iowa City. The program was followed by a free screening of the documentary, “The Great Invisible,” about the social and environmental effects of the Deepwater/Horizon/Macondo disaster and oil spill in 2010.

Thanks to UI graduate Ryan Kloberdanz, an entire village in the Kingdom of Tonga is spreading the Hawkeye spirit. Kloberdanz, from West Des Moines, Iowa graduated from the UI in 2006 with degrees in political science and journalism and mass communication. From 2012-2014, he and his wife worked in a rural village of Tonga through the Peace Corps. In this video, we see and hear the residents of the village singing the Iowa Fight Song!

Pius, a Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) from Tanzania, reflects on his experience at the University of Iowa in this video produced by the Division of World Languages, Literatures and Cultures. Pius teaches courses in Swahili, which he says is made easier by the advanced technology available at the UI.
