International Programs’ Confucius Institute at The University of Iowa will continue to offer Mandarin Chinese classes to community members and families starting Sept. 1.
Level one community classes are designed for students with little or no previous training in Mandarin Chinese, while level two classes are intended for students who have completed level one or who have a comparable background of Mandarin Chinese. The advanced level class is intended for students who are looking for a challenge, and it is assumed that these students will have already mastered the material covered in levels one and two.
Family Mandarin Chinese classes are designed for children to attend class with their parent(s) and be introduced to the language in a fun, relaxed atmosphere. Examples of topics include greetings, colors, counting, animals, food, clothing, the home and more. Classes are split into two sections: section one is made up of preschool and kindergarten age children with their parents, and section two is made up of children in grades1-6 and their parents.
