“Sustaining Art Forms,” a forum to discuss how various early art forms have been reproduced in the 21st century, will be held Thursday, April 7, from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. in Meeting Room A of the Iowa City Public Library. The event is free and open to the public.
Downing Thomas, associate provost and dean of International Programs, will address opera performance and media in the 21st century. Ruthann McTyre, head of the Rita Benton Music Library at the UI, will discuss recent library endeavors to preserve and provide access to one’s cultural heritage. Stephen Swanson, UI professor in the School of Music, will discuss the problem of communicating through song in a language your audience doesn’t understand. And UI English professor Anne Stapleton will speak about Scottish dance in practice and in print.
The School of Music and the Department of English are both in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
