David Goodner

International Studies grad goes to work in Iowa

David Goodner’s major in International Studies has taken him to unexpected places – including a full-time job right here in Iowa. Goodner, a 2009 UI graduate in International Studies, recently started a position as a community organizer with Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement (Iowa CCI), a nonprofit, nongovernmental, grassroots organization with over 3,500 dues-paying members across the state working on major issues like factory farming, predatory lending, immigration rights, campaign finance reform, and other neighborhood-based issues.

Taking health care to underserved populations around the world

When Mariel Bryden first transferred to the University of Iowa, she knew she wanted to practice medicine overseas, but she wasn’t sure which major would best help her get into this career. After some research, she settled on the International Studies major, excited about all of the options it offered to learn about different areas and pursue her goal.

MaryGrace Weber

International Studies alum building on her undergraduate work to support sustainable world travel

MaryGrace Weber didn’t wait until she finished college to get started on her career. During a study abroad semester in Kenya in her junior year, MaryGrace began to learn about the lack of viable income opportunities in the country, especially in tourism, an important revenue generator in Kenya.
