Major Project Awards
Funded in part by the Stanley-UI Foundation Support Organization
Deadline
November 5 , 2008
Overview
All UI faculty members are invited to apply for an international Programs Major Projects Award to support a large-scale project that promises to draw the attention of The University of Iowa community to international topics, whether aesthetic, cultural, historical, political, or global.
Funding is for a one-year period beginning July 1, 2009, and ending June 30, 2010. As many as three projects will be funded, up to $12,500 each.
While the International Programs Summer Research Fellowships and Stanley International Programs-Obermann Center Fellowships are intended to support research and creative activities of individual faculty members, the Major Projects Awards encourage activities or endeavors on a broader scale. These may take the form of collaborations, symposia, conferences, lecture series, artistic exhibitions, and performance events. Applicants are encouraged to contact the International Programs Associate Dean to discuss the appropriateness of the proposed project.
The objective of the Major Projects Awards is to promote important contributions to scholarly debates and exchanges on international topics, issues, discoveries, and arts. Proposals for events that will take place on The University of Iowa campus and that will enhance international knowledge and understanding for University of Iowa faculty, staff, and students are therefore especially welcome.
Selection Process
Reviewers will be asked to evaluate applications based on the following criteria:
- clear emphasis on international topics, contexts, issues, questions, or aesthetics
- compelling explanation of the purpose, significance, and impact of the project
- convincing account of objectives, methods, procedures, and anticipated outcomes
- list of departments, programs, or groups on campus likely to participate or benefit
- description of possibilities for student participation (if appropriate)
Applicants should indicate additional sources of funding for which they intend to apply, from within the University or from external funding agencies.
The committee to review International Programs Major Projects Award proposals is appointed and chaired by the Associate Dean of International Programs.

Proposals for Major Research Projects must include the cover sheet and full application, including project description, budget and justification, and two-page curricula vitae for the principal investigator and fellow organizers / co-PIs.
