2010-2011 Statistics Full Report

1347 University of Iowa students—908 undergraduates and 439 graduate and professional students—studied abroad during 2010-11.

Comparing the number of undergraduates who studied abroad to the number of bachelor's degrees awarded by the UI during 2010-11 (4537) indicates that approximately 20% of the current graduating class studied abroad.

Academic Status

Among the UI undergraduates, less than 1% were first-year students, 8% sophomores, 32% juniors, and 59% seniors.

Field of Study

Undergraduates who studied abroad during 2010-11 had 71 different majors, representing most majors in all the undergraduate colleges.

Destinations

UI undergraduates studied abroad in 58 different countries during 2010-11.

The highest concentration of undergraduates—58%—was in Western Europe.  18% in Asia, 10% studied in Latin America, 6% in Oceania (Australia & New Zealand), and 8% in all other regions combined.
