Faculty Development Opportunities
Teach with the Iowa International Summer Institute
Each spring Study Abroad accepts proposals for our Iowa International Summer Institute. The goal of the Institute is to offer General Education Program credit to UI students who have completed their first year at the University of Iowa. The program takes place in several Western European cities during three consecutive 4-week sessions. Students may elect to participate in some or all of the sessions.
Faculty members are invited to propose 4-week study abroad courses that fulfill General Education Program requirements. Eligibility is limited to faculty members who previously have taught or currently are teaching the proposed courses on campus. Preference will be given to faculty who demonstrate the capability to facilitate engagement between students and the local culture. Compensation includes 1/9th salary, housing, and travel expenses.
Proposals should creatively adapt the General Education Program course to take advantage of the overseas site. Potential locations for are limited to: Rome, Florence, Madrid, Paris, or London (future destinations may expand beyond Western Europe). Proposals will be reviewed by faculty serving on the UI Study Abroad Advisory Committee and by the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences General Education Curriculum Committee.
