A demonstration and introductory class for Hapkdio, a Korean self–defense oriented martial art. The curriculum is focused not on sparring or competition, but on developing sefl–confidence, self–discipline and the skills and mindset you need to survive violence. Hapkido teaches ways to avoid and redirect an attacker’s energy, allowing a smaller person to defeat a larger aggressor. Hapkido is used by military and police teams worldwide and serves as a basis for many women’s self–defense programs. Head Instructor Brian Hayes has been training in Hapkido for over 20 years and has been teaching Hapkido here at Iowa since 1998.
