Every year, International Programs holds photo and video contests for study abroad and international students in conjunction with International Education Week. This year’s photos took viewers on a journey to St. Peter's Square, India, and Mamanuca Islands, Fiji. We were also able to see Iowa through the eyes of international students, who gave us a fresh perspective of the sights, sounds, and traditions in our own backyard.
The 2015 photo and video contest winners can be seen below. Visit the study abroad and international student albums on Facebook to see all photo contest entries or check out our Flickr sets for study abroad and international student photos.

Grand Prize: "Rainy Easter Sunday"
By: Elizabeth Healy
Hometown: Elkader, Iowa
Photo Location: Vatican City
This photo was taken on a rainy Easter Sunday at Vatican City. Despite the pouring rain and cold temperature, thousands of people, both local and visiting, gathered for mass at St. Peter's Square. It was incredible to see people from all different backgrounds come together as one on that cold day.
First Prize, Exploring Local Cultures and Traditions: "Hands"
By: Megan Gilbertson
Hometown: Albert Lea, Minnesota
Photo Location: Northern India
While abroad, the people of India showed me how much the importance of craft was structured into their lives. This is a photo series that I created in hopes to showcase that significance.
First Prize, Student Experiences: "Na waitui karakarawa (the blue ocean)"
By: Hannah Luber
Hometown: Fayetteville, New York
Photo Location: Mamanuca Islands, Fiji
On a Saturday, when I wasn't studying for an exam or working on a lab report, you could find me snorkeling reefs like this one. University of the South Pacific was just as challenging as the University of Iowa, but having weekend access to this kind of marine life kept me refreshed and centered for the following week of classes.
Video Grand Prize: Archaeological Field School in Italy 2015
By: Christie Vogler
Hometown: Iowa City, Iowa
The archaeological field school based in Gangivecchio, Sicily, is a great opportunity to get first-hand fieldwork experience at an archaeological site. There are also many chances to travel and experience Sicilian culture, which is what I attempt to illustrate in this video.
