Mengmeng YANG

I am Mengmeng Yang, from East China Normal University in Shanghai.  At ECNU I major in Teaching Chinese as a Second Language.  My teaching experience is in Chinese pronunciation, Chinese characters and Chinese grammer.  I also have experience teaching students to know Chinese culture, geography and society.  Welcome and enjoy learning about China!

Yu LI

Ms. LI is a Ph.D. student in Second Language Acquisition, a Graduate Teaching Assistant in Accelerated Second Year Chinese and First Year Chinese at the University of Iowa.

 

Jingjing SHEN

My name is Jingjing Shen. I'm from the most modernized city of China--Shanghai. I'm now studying at East China Normal University. My major study field is applied linguistics, and the dominant part is teaching Chinese as foreign language. I once lived in Beijing for fours years to get my bachelor degree and worked as part-time faculty in the school for two years, teaching Chinese and communicating with students from different countries. I'm interested in literature, writing and cooking.  During the next year I will stay in Iowa City as a Chinese teacher. Hope to have a wonderful and meaningful year with you.   

 

Dandan DU

Hello, I am Dandan Du, my Chinese language courses focus on comprehensive reading and oral language development ranging from entry to advanced level. Prior to joining the University of Iowa, I taught language courses in the International Chinese Study Institution at Yunnan Normal University in China. I taught international students from different cultural backgrounds have had the privilege of teaching several cross-university classes such as SIT program of U.S., credit class at New South Whales University of Australia, credit class at Auckland University of New Zealand, and extensive courses for Chinese language teachers from Thailand. My research focuses on teaching Chinese to other language speaking students.  

Yong ZHU

Yong Zhu, associate professor at Beijing Foreign Studies University, China, teaches foreign students Chinese, and also teaches Chinese students Second Language Acquisition Theory. He currently is a research scholar at the Confucius Institute of The University of Iowa.  Professor Zhu holds a Ph.D. in Literature from Kansai University in Japan, an MA in Linguistics from Peking University, and a BA in Philosophy from Beijing Normal University.

 

 

Chinese Culture Course Instructors

Haiming CHEN

Mr. CHEN is a passionate and gifted Taiji trainer. He started practicing Taiji in 1980 and has offered Taiji classes in China, Japan and the US for more than twenty years for local communities. He received a certificate of Coaching Authorization in 2007. His Taiji training program integrates classical Taiji styles and principles. He has made contemporary Taiji forms in series to suit people for practicing Taiji in different levels.

 

Dr. Ramon LIM 

Chinese Calligraphy Workshops are led by Dr. Ramon Lim, University of Iowa Professor Emeritus of Neurology and winner of the 2005 Eighth International Calligraphy Competition. Dr. Lim has his works widely exhibited in China, Korea and Japan.
