International Programs (IP) hosts hundreds of free, public events each year, from the annual International Education Week activities, to lectures from visiting scholars on international topics, to the monthly WorldCanvass radio and television show. Check our IP calendar to learn about upcoming events.

The Confucius Institute at the UI offers courses in Chinese language and culture. Non-credit community courses are offered in Iowa City for adults (age 14 and up) and children (age 5 to 13 years old). All ability levels are welcome.

Connect with organizations around campus and in the community that engage in international activity. Check out our Community Connections section to learn more about Friends of International Students, the Iowa City Foreign Relations Council (ICFRC), the Council for International Visitors to Iowa Cities (CIVIC), and more.

Consider volunteering with IP. Several programs require the assistance of volunteers, including international student orientations, classroom visits by international speakers, workshops and panels, and more. Fill out our comprehensive volunteer form to get involved.

Did you know that some study abroad programs are open to community members, not just students? The India Winterim program is one such example. This three-week program provides participants with the opportunity learn from and directly interact with leading social entrepreneurs, non-profit organizations and academic institutions within India’s diverse cultural, socioeconomic, and geographical mosaic.
