FLARE invited Dr. Andrew D. Cohen from The University of Minnesota. He will give us a public lecture entitled 'Coming to Terms with Pragmatics and Identifying Pragmati Failure' on Friday, March 2, 2007 at 3:30 p.m. in 218 Phillips Hall.

Abstract of the Talk

The session will briefly review terms used to describe pragmatic behavior, especially in the form of speech acts. Mention will be made of two websites developed for learner self-access to speech act information in Japanese and Spanish. The workshop will end with a group task involving the identification of pragmatic failure.
