England here we come!

messy bedroomA before look at my room disaster after moving out of the dorms and trying to pack for study abroad!

As I write, I am sitting in bed, all of my clothes are packed in vacuum-sealed bags, copies of my passport are scanned, and my alarm is set. Yet here I am, wide awake, eagerly anticipating the big trip.

Of course, I waited until the last minute to get my packing done (shame on me!) But the past few days haven’t been easy.

Upon returning from the University of Iowa, I pretty much had to dump all of my stuff from my dorm into my bedroom at home, and quickly pack to go back for my first week of class on campus. That was all fine and dandy. But let’s just say coming home to all of that unpacked madness wasn’t the most welcoming sight.

Before and after photos are shown below, but right now, if you visualize troughs of dirty laundry, mountains of paperwork, and piles of miscellaneous office supplies, you can get an idea of what my room looked like. It took about twelve hours of my time, endless cups of coffee, and all the will-power I could muster, but soon it was finally, FINALLY restored to its initial cleanliness.

I apologize for ranting, but having to pack for a two-week trip after all of that wasn’t one of the most fun experiences I’ve gone through.

But! The worst is over, and I’m eagerly anticipating what’s to come. It’s been 5 years since the first time I visited London, and I cannot wait to go back. I only spent two days there which is not nearly enough time to absorb all of the unique history and scenery the city has to offer. Words cannot express how grateful I feel to go on this journey and spend two whole weeks there.

I am eager to learn, to experience, and especially, to share. I hope to connect with people, while building on the knowledge I currently have to obtain a better understanding of the city through a sociological perspective.

It’s hard to believe that all of this will be happening in just a few hours, but any nervous feelings have melted away. I’m ready!

But first… I should probably get some sleep. Until next time!
