Dr. Silliman will discuss four different initiatives (Breakthrough, Akshara, Jagori Rural and Safe City Campaign, Bell Bajao) to illustrate the kind of innovative work being done in India today around issues of domestic violence.

Silliman is a former faculty member in women’s studies in the UI College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and a former program officer for the Ford Foundation in New York. She currently lives in Kolkata, India.
