U.S. Rep. Dave Loebsack will share his foreign policy views during an Iowa City Foreign Relations Council (ICFRC) “political tailgate” at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, in Room 2520-D in the University Capitol Centre, on the second floor above Express.
This lecture continues the ICFRC’s long election-year tradition of inviting political candidates from every party to speak with the public.

WorldCanvass Studio, a mobile version of the University of Iowa International Programs’ monthly radio and television program WorldCanvass, will feature Eliza Griswold, author of “The Tenth Parallel: Dispatches from the Fault Line Between Christianity and Islam,” at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 29, in the Iowa City Congregational Church. The event is free and open to the public.

The UI South Asian Studies Program (SASP) will start its fall lecture series by welcoming to The University of Iowa Dr. Nupur Barua of New Delhi, India, for two related talks.
The International Crossroads Community (ICC), a University of Iowa living and learning community, will host its annual open house from 4-6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 26, on the eighth floor of Mayflower Residence Hall.
The event will be set up like a festival with games, music, artifacts and displays at each country’s station. UI students are encouraged to attend to sample free food made from traditional ethnic recipes and to learn more about the diverse cultures and backgrounds of ICC members.
Ghada Abdel Aal, an International Writing Program resident from Egypt, will be featured on “Images of the Muslim World,” Tuesday, Sept. 21, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in Room 2520D of the University Capitol Centre. The event is free and open to the public.

The United Nations Day of Older Persons second-annual celebration will be held Wednesday, Sept. 29, from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Assembly Room of the Iowa City/Johnson County Senior Center. The event is free and open to the public.

The UI Office for Study Abroad will hold its annual study abroad fair Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2010, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the second floor of the University Capitol Centre, near the south end. All university students are invited to attend to learn about global education opportunities.
Nicholas Vazsonyi, professor of German and comparative literature at the University of South Carolina, will present “Richard Wagner: Self-Promotion and the Making of a Brand?” on Thursday, Sept. 16, at 4:30 p.m. in Gerber Lounge of the English Philosophy Building.
The University of Iowa Opera Studies Forum, part of International Programs, will present a series of six lectures coordinated with the Metropolitan Opera Live in HD theatre screenings.
James Martin, professor of music at Cornell College, will begin the series with his talk on Wagner’s “Das Rheingold,” Thursday, Sept. 9, 2010. All lectures take place at 5:30 p.m. in the University Capitol Centre conference seminar room 2520D and are free and open to the public.
International Programs’ Confucius Institute at The University of Iowa will continue to offer Mandarin Chinese classes to community members and families starting Sept. 1.
