Spring 2014 South Asian Studies Program Seminar

The South Asian Studies Program (SASP) will continue its spring 2014 seminar series with a lecture by Corey Creekmur titled “Experiments with Truth: The Contemporary Hindi Historical Film.” The event is free and open to the public and will be held Monday, March 10, from 4:00-5:30 p.m. in 1117 University Capitol Centre.

The International Campaign for Justice in Bhopal (ICJB, North America), in collaboration with the UI Public Policy Center, Association for India’s Development (AID) and Amnesty International, is organizing a screening of the award-winning documentary Bhopali on Tuesday, October 22, at 7 p.m. in the Levitt Auditorium, Boyd Law Building, followed by a Q&A and discussion.

Joe Bookman and D. Jesse Damazo, two graduate students from the University of Iowa, were honored Thursday when the Cannes Film Festival announced their Official Selection for 2011. Bookman and Damazo’s film, The Agony and Sweat of the Human Spirit, was selected from more than 1500 entries to screen at this year’s Cinéfondation, the student film competition at Cannes.

A new film series from the University of Iowa Obermann Center for Advanced Studies will allow audiences to explore the history and meaning of slavery practices through a variety of documentaries, feature-length films and personal accounts by filmmakers.
