The world today is more complicated yet more connected, prone to repeating the mistakes of the past yet rapidly creating innovative solutions to life’s daily problems, burdened with old challenges yet rich with new opportunities. Today's University must prepare its students to be tomorrow's peacemakers, cultural bridge-builders, and fully active participants in ever more multicultural communities and an ever more interconnected world.

At The University of Iowa, International Programs enables students, faculty, staff and the public to learn from and about the world. Its mission is both broad and deep: IP infuses international and cross-cultural perspectives into the undergraduate, graduate, and professional curricula of the University's departments, colleges and disciplines, at the same time as it promotes advanced understanding and expertise in particular languages, countries, cultures and regions.

International Programs promotes international scholarships and life-changing, educational exchanges across cultures and countries. It enhances the Iowa experience for international students and scholars and heightens intellectual and cultural diversity. And it helps create a community and society responsive to the increasingly international needs and obligations of citizenship.
