University of Iowa service-learning students who traveled to Xicotepec over spring break will give a public presentation on their classroom and service experience, how it has changed them, and what meaning it may have for them in the future as they leave the university to begin their careers. Come see and hear how Rotary District 6000 and the University of Iowa have partnered to offer a unique and often life-changing experience for young learners over the past 17 years.

This insightful panel will discuss forging partnerships for community-based solutions to advance health equity. The shared vision and values of the community will be emphasized, empowering individuals to shape outcomes actively. The importance of diverse collaboration will be underscored, including collaborations with public health agencies, community-based organizations, faith-based organizations, and businesses.

This talk will explore various facets of cultural preservation, including discussing language revitalization efforts of the Kalinago language and strategies to ensure its survival and transmission to future generations.

This talk will delve into Indigenous healing processes that emphasize interconnectedness. Sessions will explore the compatibility of individuals with others, the spiritual world, and the social structure. The holistic approach to health will be highlighted, showcasing how Indigenous health interventions address individual care and encompass activities aimed at restoring social and spiritual balance.

Visiting Scholars from universities in Moldova and Armenia will present on their research advancements in injury prevention related to their involvement in an NIH capacity building training grant.

Learn more about working in interdisciplinary professional environments and industries. Discover your strengths and how each individual contributes to achieving a goal. Opportunities for gaining applicable, hands-on experience working in the industry sector will be discussed.

The 2023 Global Health Case Competition Topic is about to be revealed!

The Division of World Languages, Literatures, and Cultures, with funding from an International Programs Major Projects Award, sets out to explore the intersection of race, ethnicity, language, and culture and how to advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in the academy. The three-day symposium, taking place on the University of Iowa campus from Thursday, October 6, 2022, to Saturday, October 8, 2022, will bring together leaders and scholars from across disciplines and geographic areas and engage them in an open dialogue about the opportunities that advocating for DEI in the academy provides.

Presented as part of the International Student-led Lecture Series, hosted by the Public Health International Student Advisory Board (PHISAB).
